The Vicar

The Reverend Susan Berry Taylor (aka Amma Susan) was ordained on the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, May 31st, 2013 in the diocese of Vermont. Just days prior to that, she graduated with an MDiv from the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, MA. Amma Susan was called to be our priest-in-charge May 1st, 2017. However, we prefer to use the more Anglican term Vicar. It does have a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? Vicar of Winthrop!

Our vicar serves the parish 1/2 time which means the laity have a calling as well to be the hands and hearts within the communities we serve. This arrangement allows Amma Susan to practice her other vocation as an artist. She’s returned to her roots to settle here in Maine having graduated from the Maine College of Art in 1993 as a printmaker.

She and her husband Jim make their home in Winthrop. Their daughter Sophie currently lives with them while working in the area. Their son Josh resides in MA and likes to visit when possible. Smudgey, their 18 year old cat rules her dominion and Hope, their Keeshond remains ever hopeful for treats!
