Vicar’s Corner Dec 2020: ‘Out’-growing God

After listening to Lorrie’s reading for this morning’s meditation, from Watch For the Light – a book of Advent reflections, it stimulated my thinking further about Mary. And yesterday, we also considered Mary in our Advent Bible Study in the Stations of the Nativity (along with Zechariah & Elizabeth, their son John the Baptizer, and the Angel Gabriel). I do often emphasize Mary as Theotokis, the God-bearer. But in these last few days, I’ve been thinking about her life as a whole in relation to her son Jesus; expanding my gaze from beyond the crib to viewing the intertwining of their lives in relation to the cross, indeed her life in God as well as God’s life in hers.
