On this 16th Sunday after Pentecost, our attention is turned to Jesus’ teaching that the first shall be last and the last shall be first. In part two of lessons in scorekeeping, in God’s eyes, there is no competition for God’s love and no such thing as comparative grace. Who are we to “give God the evil eye” for God’s generosity and overflowing mercy? Or as one Bible studier noted earlier, “I’m not the general manager of the Universe.”
